One of the biggest landmarks in Spokane, at the center of the Shadle neighborhood, is the green and yellow striped water tower. The drum shaped tower holds 4.8 million gallons of water and has received national publicity for its aesthetic and functional qualities. It sits on the same property as the newly renovated Shadle Park High School and the Shadle library, which is currently undergoing it’s own renovations. The Shadle aquatic center, a splash pad and park also sit nearby, making it a centerpiece for recreation.
A bustling shopping center is located just to the West and features a huge selection of retailers. Safeway, Walmart, Rite Aid, Dollar Tree, McDonald’s, Panda Express and Starbucks are highly recognizable but are rounded out by several other local shops, including a nail salon and laundromat.
The true heart of the neighborhood is the homes in it, specifically the fact that most of the homes here were built in the 1940’s and 1950’s but remain in excellent condition, with a lot of mid century charm. The homes average 2000 square feet, most with very usable basements.
Salk and Glover are the two Middle School’s that feed into Shadle Park High School and the area elementary schools include Browne, Ridgeview, Willard and Finch.
