Spokane in general has been booming for years now! With cost of living increasing in other big cities around the Northwest, we find a lot of people from surrounding areas flocking to this area. For quite some time the expansion of Spokane was eastward but now it has started west!
The West Plains incorporates many small communities and farming towns that are beginning to see the uptick. For people who enjoy living in a bedroom community but still want to be in close proximity to downtown Spokane, this is it! You will find the Spokane Airport and Fairchild Air Force Base in this area. Large manufacturing and distribution plants, including Amazon and Caterpillar are close to the airport providing a large variety of job opportunities.
However, the further out you go you are surrounded by vast wheat fields and tiny towns tucked in between. Cheney (about 20 minutes southwest of downtown) is home to Eastern Washington University and is the perfect mix of college and community. Cheney School District is the largest square mile district in the state and is known for their schools. Not far away is Fairway Golf Course and many other outdoor activities, lakes, trails and more.
