Ali Pomeroy is our next AMA interview of this series! But first we must chat about what has happened in our lives. Cassie – I completed the most difficult transaction of my career. Definitely came out a bit singed, but now I know I am in this thing for good. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, but we finally crossed the finish line and closed.
What made you decide to go into real estate?
I’m never going to be able to afford a house unless I make more money.
At what point in your life did you think this could be a career path?
I thought about it a lot off and on but kept thinking I am just not there yet. I think I built real estate up to be this big thing in my head and unattainable and one day Danielle was like why don’t you just try after talking about it over YEARS and so I bought the courses and started. It took me a bit after meeting with Danielle for many years for coffee.
What are your best attributes as an agent and what bites you in the ass?
Your biggest strength is your biggest weakness. I got all my soft skills from bartending. How to handle people, I can gauge how to handle them like how much sarcasm or how direct you need to be. Some people are off the rails and I can figure out if people can handle me putting them into line or not. I can read people and know how to best communicate with them. But then that can backfire because I can become their personal therapist and I got a lot to do. I love hearing about their life, but I’m also very busy.
I had this older man ask me what my sign was and then we went into it for a long time and I was like okay and now we are done.
At what point in your life was a pivotal point in becoming self-assured?
I feel like my confidence comes in waves, but sometimes I make decisions no one supports and even if I fail I am proud I tried and learned. I am not scared of failing and I chase experiences because I don’t care if I fail and I think that gives me confidence in the end. Failures make me confident ironically.
If you were a house what kind of house would you be?
I would definitely have a back outdoor vaulted porch with fans. When I was younger we were on 5 acres and my dad would have his morning coffee out there and just take in the quiet so I would need a home with that. I kind of like the modern rustic. I like seeing the beams in the home and the open living space.
Even as a person you have a modern rustic style. In high school people didn’t know my vibe because sometimes I would be in all black and sometimes I would be in sequins. I can never choose. And I would hang out with all the genres of people.
That is one of your superpowers, you can get along with everyone! Even old men. They attach to you! In the sweetest way!
I love them! I think it is because I am so obsessed with my dad. I don’t attract weird, creepy ones, but sweet ones that remind me to put air in my tires!
Your wildest showing experience
When I got stuck on a mountain. I was showing a property way up north and there was no service and there was a detour (that said summer road) that was 20 minutes faster so I obviously chose that even though it was winter. Well that took me up and over a mountain when I should have gone around it. I drive a jeep so I thought I would be fine. And I honestly was fine I got up and over but then there was a tree down and there was so much snow. I made it 90% of the way and didn’t have enough service to call anyone. If I stood on my car I had one bar so I texted Danielle and said I was fine so she wouldn’t worry. I then texted my client and told him what roads I took and he was like shit damsel in distress and he had a trick with a tow thing and they found me about 30/40 minutes later.
That was wild, because I don’t think anyone else would have been able to find me. There was a lot of people who like to be off the grid so I didn’t want to just walk back and deal with people in the hills. Situations like this happen a lot and they always work out which is probably why I don’t learn my lesson.
Cassie – I had a client who got a flat and ended up hopping in with me and we continued with the showings.
What was the turning point where you shifted to feeling like you were an experienced agent?
When you’re a new agent you feel like you don’t know what you are doing and I was thankful we had to send everything to the managing broker, but there came a time when I was like I wouldn’t need to send it to her and I knew it was good. And also when you are not the newest agent anymore and people start to ask you questions the imposter syndrome starts to go away. When they ask me questions and I know the answer it feels great.
When I first started I was working more than one job and now when someone asks me what I do I say full time real estate agent and it feels good to support myself with that. Success feels like a big word, and I am happy where I am at and on my way. There is always room to grow in real estate, but I also feel like when you can comfortably support yourself as a real estate agent that is success.
Tell me 5 of your favorite things:
- Eggs
- My younger siblings
- Singing
- Being right – which I am a Leo so I usually am right
- A cute bond with an animal – I think when you have a childhood pet that lived with you for 18 years is just so amazing
I had a cat and my ex-boyfriend didn’t like them and my cats didn’t like him and I think that is telling. I had such a bond with them. I also love cows they are so cute.
Tell me 5 things you hate:
- When people are cranky so they make everyone else around them cranky
- Cantaloupe, well melons in general
- When someone says something moderately rude and I say something rude back and now I am the bully
- Wet socks
- Split ends
That was hard!
Tell us something that is a little known fact about you
I have a lazy eye! When I am really tired is when people start to notice. CJ noticed we had it the first couple dates (because we were drinking) and he said I didn’t know if I could get past it, but then I realized I really liked you. Am I suppose to be flattered?
I hate when people don’t know how to deal with it and then I have to fix it if I know it is happening. I can bring it in and refocus it. Sometimes I don’t know because I have such good vision in one eye. I was ordering yesterday and CJ was like your eye is really bad right now and I asked him why he didn’t tell me and he said what am I suppose to say “babe fix your eye” while you are ordering food?
What is your favorite pastime?
I really like live music. It can be a concert or going to a bar and hearing someone play. I really like performing but that also comes with a lot of anxiety, so I really like to kick back and listen to someone else. But I also appreciate it more since I perform as well.
