Audubon/Downriver neighborhood
Located in NW Spokane, the Audubon/Downriver neighborhood offers the charm and convenience of many south hill neighborhoods at a more affordable price point, a home in this neighborhood could sell for $100,000 less than the same home in a south hill neighborhood. The neighborhood is well canopied with many tree varieties and offers everything from fine dining and a hair salon to a nursery and pottery shop.
The neighborhood began development during the 1920’s and is dominated by a theme of brick built homes that resemble English Cottages. Most homes are under 2000 square feet but there are some larger homes mixed in.
The Audubon/Downriver center is NW Boulevard which separates the homes around Audubon Park from those near the Downriver Golf Course. NW Boulevard is home to the commercial sector of this neighborhood and includes; Downriver Grill, The Flying Goat, Little Garden Cafe, Tecate Mexican Grill, Outlaw BBQ, and Fieldhouse Pizza for dining as well as Polka Dot Pottery, Downriver golf course, Audubon Park and Dwight Merkel Sports complex.
Audubon park is 27 acres and offers 2 playgrounds, a splash pad , play fields, basket courts and paved trails throughout. Finch Elementary sits at the NE end of the park. The Audubon park also offers a Concert Under the Pines series in the summer, which are a family friendly evening of entertainment.
Downriver Golf Course is Spokane’s oldest golf course and is nestled along the Spokane river and Riverside State park. They host many major tournaments and the course can be a fun challenge for all skill levels.
Aside from a lack of grocery store, the neighborhood has so much to offer in terms of convenience, community and walkability. It allows for easy access to Riverside State Park and the Spokane River.
